How to care for your DTF, Chenille, and Varsity Letter Shirts

Congratulations!  You just made your new favorite chenille patch tee or sweatshirt!  Now that you're feeling confident in your cozy shirt, here are some hacks to keep it looking as new as the day you created your cute!

Graphic tees and oversized sweatshirts are trending.  If you want that nostalgic 90's fit looking new, you've got to care for your shirts like the precious garments they are.  In this blog post, we'll guide you through the ins and outs of caring for each type of shirt. Let's dive in to see how to care for your DTF, chenille, and varsity letter shirts to keep them from looking like they were made in the 90's!

First, we need to know what we are caring for because not all shirts are created equal.  There are 3 types of shirts you may have purchased: DTF (direct to film), chenille patch or varsity letter, and each need their own special treatment.

To learn more about DTF, your high-resolution graphic tee, you can read this.  It will explain exactly what DTF is!

DTF are by far the easiest items to care for.  Images are heat pressed so that it becomes one with the fabric (she says in a yogi voice from lotus position). This is your moment of Zen.  Just kidding...come back to me.  Basically, the image stretches with the shirt making laundering a piece of cake.  To start, always wash your DTF clothing inside out to preserve the vibrant prints. Place them in the washing machine on the cold and gentle cycle, using mild detergents and similar colors to maintain their brilliance. Unlike chenille and varsity letter shirts, which we will be touching on next, DTF garments can withstand heat in the dryer.  It's plug and play with DTF.  All you have to do is wash and dry, then slay all day!

When it comes to caring for your chenille and varsity letter shirts, gentle handling is key. Start by turning them inside out to ensure nothing in the wash snags the patches.  Then, place them in the washing machine on the cold and gentle cycle, using mild detergents and similar colors to prevent any color bleeding.  If something spills on the patch itself, you can begin a spot clean process with mild detergent and cold water.  Always start with a test patch, then wash as stated above.  Now, here's the crucial step: never expose your chenille and varsity letter shirts to heat! Instead, opt for air-drying by hanging them up, which helps maintain their shape and prevents any damage to the intricate detailing. It's essential to know how to care for items properly.

With these simple yet effective care tips, you can ensure your DTF, chenille, and varsity letter shirts always drip.  At Spillin' Tee Designs, we understand the importance of quality craftsmanship, which is why we're committed to providing you with the knowledge to care for them properly. Whether you're in your cozy-in-comfort-oversized-graphic-tee era or feeling extra in an elevated chenille or varsity letter sweatshirt, remember to follow these care instructions to keep your fashion game fire.
